Geum

The genus Geum, common name Avens, occurs in Western Montana from stream banks and riparian areas to forested area and even subalpine habitat. Approximately six species of Geum occur in Western Montana. It is a slightly rhizomatous perennial with flowers ranging in colors from yellow, pink, red, purple, or white (Dorn 1984). Our logo is a drawing of Geum triflorum courtesy of local artist MaryBeth Wilhelm. This species has several common names including 'prairie smoke' and 'old man's whiskers'.
